Moving In - It Begins!
Let's put the table in this corner, and hang Grandpa's painting on this wall...Oh, hi there! I'm so glad you dropped by. Sorry for the mess. It's kind of plain in here, but I plan to redecorate as soon as I can get a feel for this blogging stuff. My daughter, two nieces, and a young cousin have begun blogging in order to keep in closer touch, and I plan to join them as soon as I'm finished here.
I've been using computers since the late 60's, as has my husband Paul. How he became such a computer wiz and I stayed a computer dummy is beyond me! Paul opened his first computer in 1983 to replace a motherboard (on a 56K computer that he bought for $8000.00, and yes the decimal point is in the right place!) and he was hooked. Since then he got so proficient that he has done computer repair and consulting as a side business for years, and we even owned a computer store for five years in the late 80's.
Me, I can only use a computer because I can read and type. As long as a program is user friendly I can read what I need to do and type in the information. Give me any little setback, though, and I go running to Paul for help. I really think he is the original computer nerd!
Our kids all have inherited his aptitude for understanding computers. Our daughter Terri has especially www.stricklerbunch.blogspot.com , and I am impressed with not only her skill but her willingness to take risks with her machine. She has moved it, updated it, opened it, and more many times over. She and her dad have these long phone conversations about installing new cards, replacing boards, printer interfacing, all kinds of stuff that I know nothing about!
I call my little spot "Grandma's Kitchen" because to me that is a wonderful place to spend time. When I was little, my Grandma had a warm kitchen full of love and good things to eat and drink! She always had sodas, ice cream, and "chip potatoes" for us, and her cinnamon toast was unrivaled. When I was sick and couldn't go to school I would lie on her sofa and watch TV. Sometimes she would bring out a chair from the kitchen and do exercises with Jack LaLane! I moved away at 19, but we always kept in touch, and I grew especially close to her when I was in my thirties. I sure miss her now.
So my goal is for this spot to somehow show my visitors a similar kind of love and acceptance, and to fill everybody in on the happenings here in Reno. I'm so glad you came. Please do stop by again, and often!

Hi Mom,
Great blog. You're going to have to show me how you added the links. You say I'm so good with computers and you figured it out before me! Funny.
So I added your blog to my favorties. I look forward to reading it!
Love, Terri
Hey there, Peg
This isn't Coley's Moma, but Coley's Granny (Cyn). We are here in Washington with the grand babies and Lisa and John until next Wednesday. Wanted to say how wonderful it is to see we will be able to stay in touch with your blog. I keep up to date with the girls through theirs. Can't wait to read yours too. Love to all,
Cyn (GrannySmith)
